June 6th was D-Day for the old Pavilion

The CRGT are delighted to announce that the ‘making safe’ and removal of the old Pavilion has commenced and that we are at last on our journey to a new Community Clubhouse ready for all to enjoy in Spring 2020.

Mayfair Construction won the tender to carry out the demolition and have done an excellent job so far. Damage to the recreation ground

has been kept to a minimum despite the heavy rain experienced prior to commencement, and Claygate Cricket Club have been able to fulfil their Senior and Junior matches, as well as to continue to provide coaching and training sessions for the Juniors mid-week.

By the time of the Claygate Flower and Village Show the site should be completely cleared in anticipation of EBC planning approval which is eagerly anticipated on the 15th July. Currently there have been only positive comments from the Community on the Planning Application website. Once planning approval is granted the CRGT project team will be able to go out to tender for the improved clubhouse rebuild and it is then hoped that the build project will commence in September 2019 with a completion date of Spring 2020. It has been a long time coming, but we are on our way.

Whilst the CRGT project team has been working so hard in the background, and we thank them for that, the CRGT has also announced that Brian Hornsby – CRGT Treasurer is standing down. Huge thanks should go to Brian for the many hours of work that he has put in and especially over the past two challenging years. Brian has very commendably managed the CRGT finances at a difficult time, as well as setting up the Project Phoenix funding website and managing the transition of the CRGT charity to a new CIO. None of this could have been achieved without his professional focus and sage advice. We will miss him.

But where one door closes another opens and the CRGT are delighted to welcome Sam Ahmed to the Trust as the new Treasurer. Sam brings with him many years of financial experience and considerable expertise in the

City. He lives with his family in Cobham but has been looking for an opportunity to help a charitable organisation such as the CRGT. We are very lucky to have someone with his experience. Welcome aboard Sam!
